About Us

Drug Aware is a program that targets young people with messages that focus on prevention of harm. The program also guides and develops strategies to create environments that support the prevention of drug related harm for young people where they may be at risk. The program is managed by the Drug Programs Branch, Prevention and Workforce Development Directorate, Drug and Alcohol Office.

Drug Aware was established in 1996 as part of a state framework of educational strategies designed to address illicit drug use among young people in Western Australia. It is the first comprehensive ongoing program on illicit drug education undertaken in Australia.

Since 1996, Drug Aware has implemented a number of campaigns and programs including: a Parent Campaign, Heroin Prevention Campaign, Psychostimulant Campaign, Marijuana Education Campaign, Amphetamines Education Strategy, Youth Drug Driving Campaign, Summer Education Program, the Cannabis Legislation Campaign, Amphetamine Prevention Campaign and the Night Venues and Entertainment Events Project.
